Approach to Therapy
Following from clinical experience, many of those affected are aware of the problematic nature of their sexual impulses and therefore seek help of their own accord. Qualified therapeutic options are rare, as there are very few psychotherapists qualified to provide this specialized therapy. The outpatient clinics of the Prevention Network seek to prevent sexual abuse of children as well as the consumption of child sexual abuse images (so-called child pornography).
Two goals arise from this preventive approach in the Dunkelfeld: Therapeutic intervention for those who have already committed sexual offenses and/or are already consuming child sexual abuse images (secondary prevention); and therapeutic prevention for men who fear they are capable of sexual offending against children/early adolescents and/or feel themselves drawn to child sexual abuse images on the internet (primary prevention).
