We, the Institute of Sexology and Sexual Medicine, Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin (PROVIDER), take the protection of your personal data seriously. Therefore, we strictly adhere to the data privacy act.

This website only collects personal data that is necessary for technical reasons. Under no circumstances, is the data sold to or for other reasons disclosed to a third party.

The following statement will explain how we protect your data. We will also give an overview on what kind of data we collect to which purpose.

Personal data

Personal data are all particulars on personal and factual circumstances of one identified or identifiable individual. This includes information such as name, address, postal address and telephone number. Data that cannot be linked to your identity (e.g. user count on our website) is not considered personal data.

As a matter of principle, you can use our online services anonymously without disclosing your identity!

If you contact us via our contact form you may enter your name, pseudonym and other personal data. We would like to stress that the communication of personal data (email, name, address) by the user is entirely voluntary. You may always choose to enter a pseudonym instead of your name or not to specify at all. In order to ensure safe transmission of your data, our contact form is cryptographically secured. However, you may also choose to use other means of contacting us (such as telephone or post).

Data processing on this webpage

The PROVIDER automatically collects and saves information that your browser transfers to us in their server log files. These data include the following:

• type and version of your browser
• systems software
• referrer URL (the previously visited page)
• anonymized IP-address
• time of server inquiry

The PROVIDER cannot link this data to one particular individual. Neither is the data being combined with other data sources. The information is used for technical surveillance and will be deleted after five days.


In different parts of this websites we use so called. They allow us to offer our services in a safer way that is more user friendly and effective. Cookies consist of small text files that are archived on your device and saved by your browser. The cookies that we use are so called “session cookies”. The only exception to this is the Matomo (former PIWIK-) cookie, which we will explain in more detail below. Session cookies are deleted automatically once you leave the website. They do not cause any harm to your device nor do they contain viruses.

Statistics / Matomo (former PIWIK)

This website uses the open source software Matomo (former PIWIK) to statistically analyze the user access. Matomo uses cookies (text files that are saved on your device) to analyze how you use the website. The data generated by this cookie about how you use our online service is saved on the server of our provider in Germany. The IP-address is anonymized after processing and before its’ saving. Matomo cookies stay on your deice until you delete them. Saving of Matomo cookies is based on article 6 clause 1 lit f. GDPR (dt.: DSGVO). The operator of the website has legitimate interest in the anonymized analysis of user behavior in order to optimize the online services. Data that is generated by this cookie about the use of the website is not being disclosed to a third party. By adapting the settings in your browser respectively you can prevent the cookies from being saved. However we would like to point out, that you might then not be able to use all the functions on the website to their full extend.

In this case, an opt-out-cookie is placed in your browser that prohibits Matomo to save any information on your using behavior. Whenever you delete your cookies, you will also delete the Matomo opt-out-cookie, which you would then have to reactivate before visiting our website again.

Embedding of YouTube videos

On some pages of this website, we embedded YouTube videos using privacy-enhanced mode. As long as you do not activate the video by clicking on it, YouTube will not save any information on you using this website.

Data protection statement for social media and video portal

Currently it remains to be clarified whether and to what extend the networks offer their services in accordance with European data protection regulations.

We therefore would like to stress the fact that used services like Twitter and YouTube use data of its' users for business purposes according to their own data privacy statement. We cannot influence the saving of personal data and their further use by these services.

We do not hold information on the extend of data they save. Neither do we know the place of their saving nor the time after which data is deleted by Twitter and YouTube. We do not know whether they acknowledge the existing right for deleting data or if and how they analyze, link or disclose data to a third party.

Your rights on disclosing, correcting, deleting and blocking

You have the right to complain to the Berliner Beauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit (Representative of data privacy in Berlin). Of course, you may also appeal to any other relevant supervisory authority.

We do not request personal data of children or adolescents, neither do we collect or transfer them to third parties.

Our online services contain links to other websites. We have no power on their operators obliging to privacy policy.

Due to technical developments or changes in law, it might become necessary to adjust this data privacy statement. We therefore reserve the right to adjust this data privacy statement at any time as subject to the data protection act. We hereby recommend reading this statement regularly in case changes are made.
